Junshan Silver Needle History
Silver needle is one of the Chinese ?Ten Famous Tea?. It has a reputation of ?gold jade?. Junshan Silver Needle originated in Junshan in Dongting Lake, Hunan, China. It is thin just like a needle, so, it is called silver needle. Tea area is surrounded by lake water, so it is covered by cloud all the year round, air is wet and soil layer is deep and fertile, which cultivate superior quality of silver needle.
Junshan is also called DongTing Mountain. Soil on the island is fertile; annual mean temperature is mild; average annual precipitation is 1340 mm; relative humidity is about 80% during March to September. In spring and summer, lake water evaporates, which makes bamboo and wood cluster on the island and suitable for tea tree growing.
The craft of silver needle is very consummate, including water removing, distribute heat, packed by kraft paper and baking and other four processes. After three or four days, premium silver needle is finished.
The picking time of silver needle is seven to ten days before and after Qingming. Picking period of each year is less than a month. Picking standard is the first buds of spring tea. Don?t pick in rainy day, don?t pick winding buds, don?t pick hollow buds, don?t pick buds ate by insect and other five don?t pick standards. 500g silver needle needs 105,000 buds, so the quantity of silver needle is limited.
